Becky’s New Car Audition Notice

Director: Chris Polhill

Auditions: Monday, July 10 at 7pm, Registration opens at 6:30pm. Possible callbacks Tuesday, July 11 if needed.

Show Dates: Sept. 15 – Oct. 1

Have you ever been tempted to flee your own life? Becky Foster is caught in middle age, middle management and in a middling marriage – with no prospects for change on the horizon. The one night a socially inept grief-struck millionaire stumbles into the car dealership where Becky is offered nothing short of a new life…and the audience is offered a chance to ride shotgun. A thoroughly original comedy with serious overtones, a devious and delightful romp down the road not taken.

Character descriptions and character ages –

Becky Foster (mid to late 40’s) : The center of the story.  Charming, funny, engaging, honest, charismatic.   Becky is a wife and mother.  She is loyal, hardworking, and missing something.   What?  She’s not sure.  Becky is required to interact with the audience during the production.

Joe Foster (mid to late 40’s) :  Becky’s husband. He is strong, pragmatic, honest, sharper than he looks and a loyal family man with a big heart.

Chris Foster (26):  Becky and Joe’s son.  He lives in the basement.   He is a graduate student studying psychology.   He is smart, funny, easy-going, yet passionate – a good kid.

Walter Flood (mid 50’s – 60’s): A very wealthy businessman recently widowed.  He is charming, friendly, gentle, and a bit out of touch, especially when it comes to members of the opposite sex.

Kensington (Kenni) Flood (early 20’s): Walter’s daughter.  She is pretty, cynical, smart, a bit spoiled – yet grounded.

Steve (mid 50’s – 60’s):  A recently widowed car salesman who works with Becky.  He is neurotic, emotional, whiny, manic, clueless.  He’s a bit of a nebbish, but not a bad guy underneath it all.

Ginger (mid 50’s – 60’s):  Walter’s single neighbor who has recently lost all of her money and the things that go along with it.  She is jaded, funny, honest, and lonely.  She’s on the prowl.
